Steve O’Hara Wins Judgment for Fees and Costs

On October 27, 2014, the circuit court in St. Johns County entered judgment in favor of Steve O’Hara’s client (the defendant), and against the plaintiffs, for litigation costs and attorneys’ fees totaling almost $140,000. This was the final outcome of a lawsuit for bodily injury damages sustained by the plaintiff in a motor vehicle accident. During the lawsuit, we made a statutory proposal for settlement which the plaintiffs did not accept. The jury returned a verdict considerably lower than what was offered in settlement on behalf of our client. Under Florida law, this entitled us to recover the litigation costs and attorneys’ fees incurred on behalf of our client after we made the statutory proposal for settlement.
